HYMN SPOTLIGHT

If Christ Had Not Been Raised (1985)

Christopher Idle, b. 1938

The author was educated at Oxford and ordained into the Anglican ministry in 1965. He has spent much of his ministry working in schools and churches (both Anglican and Baptist) in London. The tune KINGSFOLD is adapted from an English folk tune thought to date back to the Middle Ages. It was first collected and published in 1893. It was adapted as a hymn tune in 1906 by the great classical composer Ralph Vaughan-Williams. The hymn takes its inspiration from 1 Corinthians 15:17, “If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins.
