HYMN SPOTLIGHT

I Surrender All (1896)

Judson W. Van DeVenter,1855-1939

The author described the origin of this hymn in these words, “It was written in memory of the time when, after a long struggle, I had surrendered and dedicated my life to active Christian service. The song was written while I was conducting a meeting at East Palestine, Ohio, in the home of George Sebring, who later founded the city of Sebring, Florida.” It is said that this hymn was instrumental in the conversion of a 16 year old boy from Charlotte, NC in 1937. The boy’s name was William Franklin Graham, Jr., better known to millions as evangelist “Billy Graham.”
