HYMN SPOTLIGHT
My God, I Love Thee (1849)
Attributed to Francis Xavier, 1506-1552
Translated by Edward Caswell, 1814-1878
Francis Xavier was a Jesuit priest who is known as one of the greatest missionaries in the history of the Christian church. During his short life, he endeavored to take the gospel past the confines of Europe and preached in such far away places as Ceylon and Japan. The tune that we will be using to sing this hymn is called KINGSFOLD. It is based on a British folk tune collected and harmonized by the great English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams in 1906.
