Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow (1692)
Thomas Ken, 1637-1711
A “doxology” is defined as any expression of praise to God. This particular doxology has been described as the most sung hymn in the history of the English-speaking church. This morning we will depart from the usual version that we sing in favor of the original rhythm. The accompaniment today is an adaptation of the great 20th Century English composer Ralph Vaughan-Williams’ setting of the 100th Psalm. Fans of the TV show “The Crown” will want to know that this music was composed for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II on June 2, 1953.
