HYMN SPOTLIGHT
All Creatures of Our God and King (1225)
Francis of Assisi, c. 1182-1226
Francis was a man so possessed by the Spirit of the Lord that it informed everything he did. This hymn is a paraphrase of one of his most famous works, a poem titled “The Canticle of Brother Sun.” Francis saw all of nature praising God. He created this hymn to be sung daily by the members of his order as a reminder of God’s goodness to them as they went about their lives rebuilding churches, ministering to the poor and outcast, and preaching the good news of the Christ’s Kingdom to every creature.
