O Sing a Song of Bethlehem
Louis F. Benson, 1855-1930
This hymn is often included in the Christmas carol section of most hymn books because of its references to Christ’s nativity in the first stanza. But it’s really not a Christmas carol. Dr. Benson wrote this as a hymn to teach about the life of Jesus centered around four places associated with him – Bethlehem, Nazareth, Galilee, and Calvary. It concludes with the proclamation of Christ’s resurrection from the dead and of his saving power available to all.
